n�toko ist ein experimenteller hip hop-künstler und produzent aus slowenien. seine ersten sporen verdiente er sich als frontmann eines lokalen hip hop-kollektivs namens moveknowledgement. n�toko wurde schnell durch sein technisches können und seine schnelligkeit als rapper bekannt und gewann dadurch sogar zwei nationale freestyle-wettbewerbe hintereinander. neben drei slowenisch-sprachigen alben veröffentlichte er mehrere eps in englischer sprache, von denen zwei auch in japan auf dem markt kamen. diese beiden scheiben haben mittlerweile kultstatus bei underground hip hop-fans und liebhabern alternativer musik erreicht. parallel dazu spielte n�toko ausgiebige touren in europa und den usa, wo er gast auf diversen festivals war (u.a. reeperbahn festival, glastonbury, exit, inmusic, best buy theatre nyc). derzeit engagiert n�toko sich auch politisch in slowenien und hat sich zum viel-gelesenen kolumnist und autor gemausert. auf unique erscheint sein neues album �emirates�, und es vereint kritische texte, straighte beats und düstere, elektronische sounds.

public releases hits the lab for some aural alchemy and to turn out its first release of 2017. a four-tracker from moscow�s phil gerus, scenes�or, in the producer�s native russian, &#1089,&#1094,&#1077,&#1085,&#1099,�manages to have a makeup that�s both peculiar and magnetic. the title�s a fitting one, every track feels like a vignette in a collection of short stories. separately, they�re self-contained, but a rich narrative arch is added when they�re sewn together. if there is a theme here, it�s of viewing the future through the dusty lens of the past, and each of the songs explores this in its own fashion. the kick-off, �ohashi sky garden,� starts as a hyped-up italo space epic, pumped full of swirling synth licks and sharp, tight drums, but it mutates into something completely its own when vocal samples (90s r&b?) and warm keys (prog rock rhodes?) enter. after the original�s brisk five minutes, the legendary richard sen�graffiti guy, breaks guy, house guy, disco guy, half-of-padded-cell guy�steps in to give it a trance-y tinge while doubling its runtime and adding a dancefloor-destroying hi-nrg coloration. the b begins with �naha swim,� a crunchy funk foot-stomper that might as well be an unreleased idjut boys or ray mang ditty dug up from the noid catacombs. fiery and furious, yet utterly cheeky. serving as a sort of coda to �naha� is �kiss of a kind,� a gerus take on 80s adult contemporary, replete with sleazy sax and sensual pads. a gentle nightcap to a zigzagging, antic 12-inch

originally from brighton, kutmah made his name while living in the us, releasing some acclaimed mix tapes and building up connections with the brainfeeder & low end theory crews. in 2010 he was deported to the uk, lived in london for 5 years and now resides in berlin (while still holding down a show on the east london-based radio station nts). in summer 2015, prolific leftfield beatmaker kutmah released the 20-track instrumental beat album blk/smr on bandcamp. during march 2016 he selected & sequenced his favorite nine tracks for a forthcoming limited-edition 10 inch vinyl version of blk/ smr on hit+run.

the lost in time imprint has been releasing bespoke vinyl for a couple of years now. it got off to a flying start with the moment from ralph lawson & chez damier and kept up the pace with a series of releases from ralph lawson alongside production partner tuccillo including nightcrawler. the track has now been picked up and remixed by denmark�s finest house music export from oscillat and delaphine records, s.a.m and one records subb-an. s.a.m is fast becoming one of the very best producers of house and dub techno with a string of highly sought after releases on delaphine that sell out quickly and attract heat on discogs. s.a.m manages to fuse classic craftsmanship with contemporary sounds and has created an epic and atmospheric 10 minute long re-shape for �nightcrawler�. subb-an needs little introduction as a producer with high integrity and impeccable taste. he�s graced the decks at panorama bar, fabric, detroit movement, womb tokyo, enter, dc10, d�edge and of course the legendary below parties. while hes always been busy in the studio with releases for spectral, crosstown rebels and 2020vision. subb-an strips down nightcrawler to its very bones drawing out the classic analogue kurzweil 2000 synth sound to great effect. another chapter in the lost in time series.

emotional especial and cocktail d amore music enter cahoot-mode once again with a second round of sfire remixes that take proceedings down a deeper, more stripped-back path courtesy of the inimitable timothy j fairplay and willie burns. two artists who need little introduction offer up two remixes each that take the unique original to new dance floor extremes. timothy steps up first with his take on -sfire 2- via differing vocal and instrumental versions. his trademark, echo laden rolling percussion and john carpenter-style key lines take the original synth-pop homage to the dark room. adding arps, a lifting, hedonistic breakdown and the scatter-stepper drums and claps found on the instrumental version and this is pure cotf territory and the better for it. mr willie burns meanwhile has long followed his own path for his take on -sfire 3-, offering one of his deepest remixes to date. thudding kick, brooding pads and dark strings force the vocals to go down, way down for examination. the distorted vocals of remix 1 are countered by remix 2 letting the track shine via a seemingly endless 4/4 beat. psychedelic, trance inducing, pulsating, this is an ever growing mind expanse.

nice price deal !!! macro has been the home for the albums of some of electronic music�s most exciting live acts. so when a live band enters this context, it should better enter with a bang. kuf do just this with their album debut. the three-piece outfit with keys, bass and drums cooks up a sound that is as warm, cozy and exciting as it is utterly alien. the rhythm section hints at the great history of dirty funk and bouncing r�n b, but the grooves are firmly of today: dance-centered, thrillingly interactive and broken up at the best possible joints. the bewildering thing about kuf is that it is a vocal-led group that has no singer on stage at all. all vocal elements are based on self-recorded samples which keyboard whizz kid tom schneider melds and bends and squeezes in real time. as if it was the most natural thing to do. with no artificial synchronization in place, valentin link on bass and hendrik havekost on drums push the disembodied voices into an arena of hyperintegrated realtime magic of rough soul, intertwined by improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw mpc-based cut up techno.

london based punk duo black volume are not easy to classify. their delirious industrial post punk sounds at times like proto house and at times becomes some sort of mutant electro. their b series sound is made of a conglomerate of filthy percussions, unexpected samples and something with the appearance of melody, with a weirdly addictive result. black rubber is james brown wearing black leather at 40ºc (in the shade) while suffering a mental breakdown. excentric melodies sliding down rhythmic dislexia. negative return blooms from an improvised beat with no traceable sequence, on top of which we find rubbery synth lines, creamy interferences and mysterious sampling, everything sounds like melting from old vhs footage with the future we enter a romantic dystopia. sensual and passionate but equally crunchy, it rises up through cheap calculator arpeggios, pitched vocals and obsessive bass lines. streetfight evoques a desolate landscape, devastated and radioactive. distant echoes from an extinguished human race that left behind only majestic rusty ruins.

jack cutter is a songwriter and guitarist based in the san francisco bay area in california. he started with a $5 banjo just after finishing high school. in university, during the late 60�s, he performed with bar bands in buffalo, new york. after completing university and a year as an aerospace engineer, he decided that attack helicopters were not really what the world needed and so he headed off to california in pursuit of music and mystic times. fast forward to fall 2014: jack is playing his quintessential tune, �gift of our fathers� in the sf bart subway to an onslaught of morning commuters when he was spotted by 40 thieves. eureka! love at first sight and in the next few months, two of jack�s original acoustic pieces were given the 40 thieves treatment. enter david sanderson aka david harks, a singer, songwriter, producer and label curator from the east sussex region of the uk. �having fallen in love with the cosmic boogie (of 40 thieves classic �backward love�) i really felt i would love nothing more than to write a tune with them. layne got back in touch with a track he was working on entitled serpent strut with jack cutter and we worked via email over a few months to brew up that misty soul.� deep, stony, psychedelic, drawing from the well of hawkwind, joni mitchell, david crosby, baffo banfi and tolkien-tinged acoustic led zep, the proof of concept is now complete and in the capable and loving hands of claremont 56.
